2 Person Backpacking Tent

A 2 Person backpacking tent is probably the most popular type of tent for those who do serious backpacking (sometimes referred to as ‘wilderness backpacking’). As the name suggests, they are designed to sleep two people and have enough storage room for rucksacks and equipment but in reality a lot of these tents are quite small and can be quite cramped with two people inside.

If you are planning to set-up camp for a long period (5 days or more) then most 2 person backpacking tents are best suited to backpackers who are travelling alone. There would then be enough space to live comfortably inside the tent without feeling squashed. Extra space is particularly important if it is raining for extended periods as it is then far more difficult to spend outside of the tent.

For those planning only to set up camp for the odd night before moving on to the next place, you are probably better of choosing a 1 person tent as these tend to be lighter than a 2 person tent and therefore easier to carry. If you are planning on buying a 2 person backpacking tent then it is important that you do not make your decision solely based on price.

It is possible to pick up a tent for little more than a couple of cups of coffee and whilst these tents may look as good as more expensive rivals they are unlikely to meet your requirements. You need to be able to have complete faith in a tent and know you can rely on it to keep you warm and dry whatever the weather conditions.

Cheap tents are made of poor quality fabric which are likely to tear and therefore will no longer be waterproof. They will not last anywhere near as long as a high quality tent and will probably need replacing after each trip you go on. It can actually work out more cost effective to purchase a more expensive tent than keep on replacing a cheap one.
