Backpacking Prague the City

Prague was one of my favourite places, maybe because of the people, or maybe the place, but still i had an amazing time there. We did one of those walking tours here as well, so learnt the history of the area and was worth doing, as i didn’t know much about Czech Republic. Things to see is the old square, which is soo pretty and quaint, also it has this amazing astronomical clock, which has been around for hundreds of years and is amazing at telling the time without any alterations. This clock is on a tower, which you can climb up and look over the city from.

Other things to see here is the palace/castle which is on the other side of the river and there is also an old church in the area of Vysehrad (which is on the red line of the metro and easy to get to from this), which contains an old cememtry, a detailed interior and gorgeous grounds, so it is also worth a look if you like scenery! The other thing you can do is rent a boat or pedalo on the river, which looked a lot of fun. There are other things to do, such as going to visit Kutna Hora, which is an old church with it’s interior designed out of bones, so the chandeliers and what not are made of bones and there are skulls all around, meant to be a very good day trip. There are also the catacombs in Prague to visit. I didn’t do the last two but they were recommended to us, but we ran out of time. The place we stayed in was called the ‘Old Prague Hostel’ and it was amazing!!! Definitely the best hostel we stayed in. It was so close to the old town square, so near the local bars and restaurants. It also gave free Internet and had two computers (which was very rare). The price included breakfast and they gave you a ham and cheese roll for lunch, so it worked out to be very cheap and the best bit about it we paid around €16 per night! Plus the people we met there were lovely all wanting to do the same things.

Backpacking Prague the Trip

The whole area was the cheapest we went to throughout our trip, although getting use to the currency took a while as it worked out that €1 was worth around 26 kuna… So it took some getting use to, but we did find some bars which sold drinks for around two euros and sometimes even one! Food again was cheaper than anywhere else, also because you can walk around the whole of the city easily going to the supermarket for food was easy. There is quite a few underground supermarkets, the main one we saw was called Albert.
