Backpacking Rome

Backpacking Rome the City

General feel was dirty and crowded, but this was expected and even though it had this feel you walk from road to road to find some amazing buildings, literally every corner you turn, there is a magnificent building with a lot of history. We stayed in a hostel close to the train station called Roma Termini, the hostel we stayed in was the yellow hostel, the atmosphere was friendly and they allowed you half an hour a day on their laptops free of charge, but this was not a cheap hostel (although I think if you book further in advance you would be fine) but we ended up paying around 30 euros per night when it wasn’t even a weekend, also the location wasn’t the greatest, but still in walking distance, also there is the metro which again is easy to use and for the yellow hostel was very local.

Backpacking Rome the food

The local food was a good quality and could range for a pizza at €5 to one at €20, so you just needed to look in non touristy places, i.e stay away from places near the colloseum or places near trevi fountain, but as it is Italy the food is pretty good! The drinks however were a little more expensive. As for what to see, there is sooo much to see… the colloseum, mouth of truth, palatine hill, spanish steps, chariet racing arena, the trevi fountains, the pantheon, the vatican, all worth seeing and spending time over.

Backpacking Rome is just visually amazing, with the amount of historical remains, it is worth visiting. There are plenty of things to do, including walking tours around the old city and the newer city. Then there are tours around the colloseum and the vatican city, both of which would take a day to do. Or you can just wander around the city and take in all of the sites.
