Coleman SunDome Tent Review

by Tom_Shurville on May 16, 2010

Before my most recent backpacking trip to Europe I purchased the Coleman SunDome tent to replace my old Eureka three man which had come to the end of it’s natural life! Having used the SunDome as sleeping quarters for two people for over a week, I now feel comfortable about writing a full review on it.

One of the main attractions of the tent was it’s price. I purchased it for $89 but I understand they can now be found for even less. Coleman is a well respected manufacturer so I felt comfortable that this low price would not result in low quality and I have not been disappointed. All the fabric used is very thick and is far less likely to rip than some of the cheaper fabrics I have seen tents made from in the past.Coleman SunDome Tent

Like all Coleman tents, the SunDome packs up neatly into a small bag that is very easy to carry. For a 3 man tent it’s remarkably light which made carrying it to the camp site a breeze. When it came to assembly, again, the SunDome shone (excuse the pun!). We had it fully assembled in under 30 minutes, the instructions we very easy to follow but we certainly won’t need them again as it’s very obvious how it all fits together.

Unfortunately for us, we then had three nights of solid rain but thanks to the Coleman SunDome these were completely dry with the tent withstanding everything that was thrown at it by some unseasonal weather conditions. Admittedly the tent was brand new so you would expect all the seals to be intact but regardless it’s certainly a good sign.

I have not been at all disappointed with the SunDome as it as delivered everything it promised and then some. All this at a highly affordable price means that I would quite happily recommend it to anyone. It really is a great choice of tent made by a manufacturer that you can trust.
