Backpacking Eastern Europe is a fantastic and enlightening experience. I have put together this itinerary for those that need a bit of help and inspiration deciding where they want to go. If you decide to go backpacking in Eastern Europe you will not be disappointed with it’s diverse culture and great sights.

1. Warsaw (Poland) - Despite the mishmash of architecture the capital of Poland has a lot to see and do. With great parks and lovely reconstructed old town you will really enjoy Warsaw – not to mention the excellent bar and club scene!
2. Kraków - Although this picturesque city can be swarming with tourists during the summer months it is well worth a visit. A gorgeous historic city with a surprisingly lively night life.
3. Budapest (Hungary) - Dubbed the ‘Peal of the Danube’ this magnificent city is the beating heart of Hungary. Witness the breath taking views from Buda and then later enjoy the nightspots in Pest across the river.
4. Transylvania (Romania) - Keep you eyes open for vampires! If you love hiking the quaint villages in Romania will provide a beautiful backdrop.
5. Rila (Bulgaria) - Home of Bulgaria’s biggest monastery, it’s great architecture and mountainous setting will blow you away.
6. Belgrade (Serbia) - At first the Serbian capital may not seem an obvious choice for a visit on your trip but due to the excellent nightlife this wonderful city is fast attracting a trendy crowd.
7. Dubrovnik (Croatia) - This medieval gem situated on the Adriatic boasts fantastic views and sights that make it well worth a stop.
A beautiful view of Dubrovnik.
8. Ljubljana (Slovenia) - Although it may be small, the capital of Slovenia is the perfect place to relax to end your journey. Take a fascinating tour around the castle situated in the centre and climb the clock tower to get the best views of the old town and Alps.
I hope that this itinerary for backpacking Eastern Europe has help you plan your trip. Good luck!
